iPhone 5S at a glance
At first glance you can hardly see a difference to the iPhone 5 - this is because the dimensions of the two devices are identical. The sleeves and display foils of the iPhone 5 can therefore still be used. Only at second glance are the changes noticeable: The start button on the front is new, on the back there are two LED lights instead of one, and the sound opening on the back is round and no longer oval. This lets you guess from the outside what has happened inside. New are the colours and colour combinations. The iPhone 5 is available in the colour variants black / space grey, silver / white and for the first time also in the combination gold / white.
The revolution in the iPhone 5s is less obvious, but has far-reaching consequences: The iPhone 5s is the world's first smartphone with a 64-bit processor. Even if there are only very few 64-bit apps beyond iOS 7, they will come and, as in the computer world, push the limits of what is feasible to the top. The iPhone 5s is currently the only smartphone that already has the future on board today. With the A7, Apple has granted the iPHone 5s one of the fastest smartphone processors including co-processor in addition to the future-proof 64-bit technology. Apple is thus solving the problem that more powerful components also always reduce battery performance. For routine tasks and background activities, the frugal co-processor works, while the A7 handles the demanding tasks. No one can do faster: According to tests, the iPhone 5s is currently the fastest smartphone on the market. Even the most graphically demanding games run absolutely smoothly and with previously unattainable details. In detailed comparative tests, the iPhone 5s achieves an average performance boost of 25% compared to the already very fast iPhone 5, depending on the application, it can even be up to 60% and more. Together with the outstanding graphics chipset, the iPhone 5s achieves top places in the current smartphone tests in terms of computing power and image calculation.
The iPhone 5s is equipped with an 8 megapixel iSight camera just like the iPhone 5. The popular camera has been completely redesigned - with impressive results: The iPhone 5's pictures are among the best a smartphone can offer. The iPhone 5s has a 15% larger image sensor and an aperture of f/2.2 - this allows more light to reach the lens, making photos brighter, sharper and measurably better overall. The challenge for any camera is a low-light environment. Apple has equipped the iPhone with the new True Tone Flash. Instead of a single one, the iPhone 5s features two LEDs working together as a flash, visible on the back. One blue and one amber LED automatically analyze the environment to ensure that photos in dark environments look much more true to color. In the cool flash light of smartphones, faces in particular are often unnaturally pale, but the pale night faces of the iPhone 5s are now a thing of the past. Thanks to improved software, the images are consistently better than on the iPhone 4/4s and, thanks to a larger image sensor and True Tone Flash, also better than on the iPhone 5. Especially in difficult lighting conditions, the iPhone 5s reproduces colours and sharpness of the motifs very well. The iPhone 5s is a very good proof that it's not always higher megapixels that make for good photos. As usual with Apple, autofocus and face recognition ensure spontaneous snapshots in every situation. The iPhone 5s fires at breakneck speed, making it ideal for snapshots.
iPhone shoots videos in Full HD quality with 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second. Or - and this is new: optionally even at 120 frames per second. This makes slow-motion shots and small video masterpieces a success. You can take photos during your video recording and also zoom and focus during the recording. Convenient: Face detection and LED flash also work with video recordings - the internal image stabilisation ensures even better and blur-free video recordings. Apple has made a noticeable improvement to the 1.2 megapixel front camera: Compared to the iPhone 5, the front camera of the 5s is more light-sensitive and thus improves photos in twilight and at night. The shots taken with the front camera are significantly better overall than with the predecessors - this is of particular benefit to the video telephony FaceTime. With the iPhone 5s, recordings are successful even with low lighting. A real highlight is also the very good voice quality when making free calls via FaceTime. With the iPhone 5s FaceTime becomes a serious Skype competition. Practical: The mobile phone recognizes whether its own contacts can use FaceTime and marks them with an icon. Then you can make free calls to the recipient.
